Changing Combat Systems: Moving on from WoW/EQ?

Just recently we noted that Blizzard is already preparing for the day when World of Warcraft will be declared obsolete, and while many readers felt that, like Everquest, WoW will never be considered “obsolete” (only unprofitable), there is one aspect of World of Warcraft that has remained untouched in its six years of development: WoW’s classic hotkey based combat, otherwise affectionately known as “1-2-1-2-1-2″ combat.

Wicked Pug Diaries

I have hated pugging quite a bit during my WoW life. I think I have even done quite a bit before the new pub system to remind our guild that pugging is bad for your sanity. Then blizzard throws a curve ball and makes the game yet again funner to play by making the idea of pugging cool again.

Two things used to make pugging painful beyond belief. Getting people to the dungeon. Someone would tell you, I am on my way to the stone… only to find out later that they either did not know where the stone was or had not paid for a fast mount yet. That would set the tone for the run and a pug would take hours on top of some more hours. Now the new system lets you to deal only with issues during the run and those can be a lot easier to deal with and you are only subjected to them for 15 mins. So why not talk about some of them here, specially the ones that amuse me.

Well then… on with the show

After posting my last entry I attempted to log into wow… only to find that the servers still aren’t up from maintenance. So… guess I have time to blog then don’t I?

During BC I really only had one main character that I played. Artorin was my first toon and I loved everything about playing a druid. I explored every facet from tanking to healing, from pvp to raiding. I never had more then 9 bag slots at any given time with the many different gear sets taking up the rest of my bag slots. Sure I could of put them in my bag… but seeing the gear kept me inspired to constantly explore the different aspects of playing my druid.

Hall of Fame: Kyrin of Stormscale-EU

The Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame is a column featuring the few elite players that have hit the World of Warcraft gold cap of 214,748 gold 36 silver 46 copper. We have with us, Kumiko of Kyrin of Stormscale-EU, who will be sharing their stories with us today.

Please tell us a little about yourself and your gaming experience.

Hi, my name is Kyrin, I play a Blood Elf mage on the Stormscale EU realm. I started playing WoW in late 2008 and got hooked pretty fast. I started on the Blade’s Edge realm and later switched to Stormscale because my friend was playing there. In general I’ve been playing games as long as I remember; my first console was a hardware clone of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Changes we will see in Cataclysm

Today Blizzard gave us the news on how they intend to change gear (and by extension, some talents) for the various classes in Azeroth. Most of these were already known of course, but it never hurts to get a good overview of what we can expect to gain (and lose) once we put that shiny [...]
